How to Celebrate the Unofficial Start of Summer in D.C.

As the start of summer approaches, The Morrow Hotel is ready to help you kick off celebrations in style! Washington, D.C. is packed with events and activities to welcome the season, and we've got the inside scoop on how to make the most of your early summer start.

Attend the National Memorial Day Concert

Don't miss the National Memorial Day Concert on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol. This beloved annual event honors the sacrifices of America's military and their families and features musical performances, speeches, and other tributes. This year’s concert will host a full lineup of performers, from Joe Mantegna and Mary McCormack to the U.S. Army Chorus and the National Symphony Orchestra. Of course, the concert will also include a Salute to the Services, which is sure to be incredibly moving for all who witness it.

Reflect at the National Memorial Day Parade

Another memorable event is the National Memorial Day Parade, which features military bands, floats, and veterans from all branches of the military. It’s completely free, and there are no tickets required to attend. It’s an event dedicated to remembering and acknowledging the sacrifice of everyone who has served our country. You’ll find some of America’s favorite icons from film, music, and TV, all honoring America’s storied history along with you.

Visit Arlington National Cemetery

If you're looking to pay your respects to our fallen countrymen at Arlington National Cemetery. On Memorial Day, visitors can attend wreath-laying ceremonies and the Flags In ceremony at the cemetery, which is the final resting place of many veterans and service members.

Rally at Rolling to Remember

Another impactful event is the Rolling to Remember motorcycle rally. This annual event raises awareness of those who were prisoners of war or missing in action and honors the sacrifices of military service members. Whether you’re a motorcycle enthusiast or not, you’ll love this unique tribute.

Stroll Through the National Mall

Of course, no trip to D.C. is complete without a visit to the monuments and memorials on the National Mall. Take a stroll around the Lincoln Memorial, Vietnam Veterans Memorial, and World War II Memorial to pay your respects to our military service members.
